Connecting a Dell XPS 13 to monitor
Other than ordering an expensive adapter from Dell what is my best way of connecting my Dell XPS 13 laptop to my 27inch Monitor - The XPS has 3 USB-C connections but no others.I've been advised against using some of the cables on Amazon/Ebay that apparently only carry data and will not carry video signal.
Anybody advise on what I need to buy please? What connections does your monitor have?
You don't say which XPS 13 it is, there have been several models, but the current one appears to have DisplayPort output via those USB/Thunderbolt ports.
So if your monitor have a DisplayPort input the simplest way is a USB-C or Thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable. Hi
Sorry forgot to add which XPS it was, it is last years model - the 9370.
The monitor is an AOC Q2770PQU which hasn't been used for at least 3 years, pretty sure it has DisplayPort connection as well as HDMI, D-Sub and DVI-D.
I'll look for the cable you mention.
Cheers From a review on the right hand side on the laptop one of the USB type C ports supports Displayport video so a type C to DP video cable should work to connect it to the monitor. I have an older Dell XPS13 and it provides HDMI via that route. However there is what I suppose is a fault in that - often after some time of use - the audio will become very distorted and/or stop.Image is unaffected. This has gone on for a long time and there are reports of similar issues on the web.I'm pretty convinced it isn't software/driver/setting related - one suggestion is that the adjacent wifi module interferes and/or is heat related.
I mention it as something to watch for - it doesn't generally occur immediately. It may well be wholly inapplicable to your later model.
In my case, rather than trying to get a repair (it was bought via a third party) I simply bought one of these: USB 3.0 to 4K HDMI Adapter -from LINDY UK(there are other similar devices) which bypasses the onboard HDMI and thereby the problem.
