Blu-ray upgrade to Win7 laptop

We would like to upgrade the internal DVD drive in our Windows 7 laptop to a Blu-ray one.

There appear to be plenty of such drives available on eBay etc. but we are not entirely sure of what is involved. On the face of it, it seems like the SATA interface and mechanical fit are fairly standard, but this is as far our knowledge goes.

If you have been successful in doing this same thing then we'd be grateful to understand how you did so and what difficulties you faced.

Thanks for reading.

You are correct in your assumption that any SATA laptop drive will fit, the only thing you will have to do is unscrew the bracket from the rear of the old drive and remove the plastic fascia and attach it to the new drive.

Extremely simple job and the new drive should be plug and play so no setup required.

Thank you for the advice - we shall give it go and post the success - or otherwise - here! https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/joypixels/[email protected]/png/64/1f919.png

You may need to buy an up to date version of PowerDVD as well to play BD's.

Very few options left for playing BD's on PC these days.

Why not buy an external Blu Ray Player/Recorder?

That reminds me:

Is there any difference in getting a digital copy of a movie or TV show as opposed to getting a physical copy?
