Rodelink Filmmaker Mic - Help!
I got the Rodelink Filmmaker last week to use with my Panasonic HC-750 camcorder. I made a short test recording with it and it worked great. But then yesterday I tried it record a video and for some reason it only worked for 30 seconds each time I tried before something, I'm not sure what, made it stop.
The tx and rx units would link up fine, the sound level monitor on the receiver would show it was picking up my voice for the first 30 seconds and then the volume monitor would disappear.
Here's a image showing the display:

It looks like this to start, with the volume display bars in the middle moving up and down as I speak. Then 30 seconds later the volume display disappears leaving only the battery level display.
I tried with a different microphone and the same thing happens, so it's not the mic.
If I quickly press the power button on the receiver it works again - but only for 30 seconds before stopping again.
It seems to be 30 seconds every time, so I'm wondering if there's some setting I've activated, especially since it seemed to be working fine last week, but the instructions in the box only cover basic set-up - they say to see the Rode website for more detailed instructions but they only have a pdf of the same instructions there.
Anyone got any ideas? This is my first time using an external microphone so I guess it could be something quite obvious to someone who knows about this stuff! I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Isn't this a duplicated Thread?
Have you changed mics? - or is the mic part of the Tx perhaps?
More emails to Rode and wait, I guess . . . .
The camcorder will have "Plug-in power" - but I can't imagine Rode unit would object and you said the "initial trial" ( how long? ) was OK...
What do the LH buttons do on the Receiver ( image shown last Post ) . . . . CH is to select/pair channels?perhaps this avoids picking up someone else's stuff - but what is the lower "delete audio" function?
Reads like a mad RTFM issue . . . . but could be a faulty unit . . . . has anyone lese got one you could try on another channel, perhaps?
( i.e their Tx with your Rx -and vice-versa...).
Good Luck, hope it's sorted soon. Thanks @12harry. I have mentioned the same issue in a reply post in a different thread, but that thread was about something else so I thought I would start a new thread just about this so the title could refer to my question.
The mic is the lavalier microphone which came with the kit.
I can't remember how long the initial trail was, pretty sure it was longer than 30 secs though. The LH buttons are channel selection and mute.
Yeah, I've emailed Rode. Just wanted to post here too in case anyone knew the answer or had encountered the same issue. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Thanks for the swift reply - I read that "Mute" button actually unmutes the Tx - presumably to fix Actors that forget to turn it back on - although that could create "social" problems ( better to remove the plug?).
I think you can use another mic - it looks like3.5 jack, although sometimes these are screw-in - but worth a try in case the mic itself is not getting plug-in power (= Tx faulty )....a m/c mic would be free from this fault - for Test-purposes.
In fault-finding you really need more kit, if it isn't a "settings" issue.
Good luck, there's always the possibility as you say, that others have similar experience.... Again I ask the question: Does this 30 second "drop out" occur when you plug the receiver into another amplifier which is not the camera?
Have you tested the system to eliminate any outside effect such as the camera?
The 750 has around 2V "Plug-in power". Does the supplied Rode mic operate when plugged directly into the camera? Do other mic work directly with the camera? My electret mics work fine without their power pacs if plugged into the 750.
Do you have any radio sources near the setup when you are testing? Example: Wi-Fi or a DECT phone. I cannot connect the Panasonic App from Smartphone to Camera when I am near my Internet Router and the Wi-Fi is switched on.
You need to eliminate everything outside the Rode wireless system so you can define exactly where the fault is. Did you get any help? Since mine does this same weird powering off after approx 30 sec We expect folk to report-back when they find a "fix" - or have a repair, precisely so others may benefit....
We heard nowt, and as this piece of kit is rarely featured, I guess you may have a wait.
