Can't watch the video until I get home from work, but excited by what I read here! Can somebody quickly surmise it for me; are the 'proper' TCLs from America coming here this year (not those horrible things from 2018 on Amazon & AO)? Do we know whether it's early or later? I was going to buy a 4K TV this month, but may hold fire if these are good quality VA panels for a decent price (looking at Sony this month).

^^ It's later. Q3 for 4K and Q4 8k.
Maybe he meant will come later to the UK as in released in the US earlier in the year then the UK later. Although he did sound sketchy on the 10/20 point calibration with the US getting it first.
However, you'd have to assume that the Mini LED 4K and particularly 8K models couldn't be scrimped on and they appear to have left the door open for firmware updates with upgradable chips which is good news.

You've been asking for Mini LED over the last year or so mate and it looks like you'll get to see it - or own it if you get a nice paying job!

I was hoping Samsung will bring mini led this year for q9 but no. Looks like end of this year or next...
Shame, Sony and Samsung didn’t bother while tcl and hisense all over it...

Yeah, they're not exactly rushing to that intermediate stage of Mini LEDs are they and Marek talked more of slimness in one interview as reasoning for choice over control which seemed a little odd to say the least.
It also looks like Sony are going to be very expensive for even the 85" which will force people to the more general model if they want Sony which appears strange and may well keep LG safe in its OLED domination of the 'affordable' high end range but not super levels that Samsung and Sony's big LEDs will occupy. At this rate, Samsung's Q900R 8K (and Q950R should it appear) 75" at 7 grand will look like a bargain!
But who knows what price the TCL 4/8K will be and that X95 (?) Sony could prove a steal with previous Master Range tech etc. sitting in it.
It's all well and good bringing out very large screens only to out price the vast majority and essentially change nothing.
