Using Smart Plug with TV - will it hurt it?
I just got a new 75" LED LCD TV and it remembers its last power state when power is cut, so I can use a smart plug with it. This is very cool and convenient but... is cutting the power to the TV nightly instead of using its power button or remote harmful to the TV in any way?Does a TV do something in its "shut down" procedure that I'd be missing by just cutting power?
Thanks for any expert information!
-Gina Some TV's check for software updates in standby during the night but no, you won't cause it any harm.
You can always manually check for an update. Hi JayCee, thanks for the response. Not really in the sense that the TV wouldn't have power at times but in terms of harming components of the TV because I am cutting power suddenly instead of using the remote or physical button on the TV.Does powering off by cutting power repeatedly (every night) hurt or place wear & tear on any components like the screen, etc?
Thank you,
Gina No it won't.
That's what the good old-fashioned power on-off switch did.
