Fald TV at sensible price?

Hi I'm looking at buying my daughter a new TV. Probably 55 inches but I really want to go full array but also not wanting to spend a fortune.
I've seen the Sony xf900 at £1000 but it seems as it will continue as a 2019 model so unlikely to bag a bargain there. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheapest FALD sets are the aforementioned Sony and the Samsung Q8DN. You can also get an LG B8 oled for similar money.

While I like the qleds I just think they are way over priced for their specs sheets so cant see them being reduced enough to tempt me. Just a bit gutted the Sony xf900s are continuing as 2019 models as I had secretly hoped it would be updated and so the 2018 version would be discounted to shift old stock.
Looks like I will have to keep a sharp eye out if I'm to bag a bargain this year

The Q8DN is £100 more than the XF90 and almost definitely worth that premium. (Q8DN is known as the Q8FN in the US)

I quite like the q8 but a quick Google shows it about £200 more at £1200 (at the shops I'm most likely get too).
Still, I'm wanting or hoping for some good reductions and had hoped I would get a decent fald set for about £850 when the 2019 sets were launched but it doesnt seem to be happening at the minute. Bit gutted.

Richer Sounds have it for £1099 so you could get a price match? You can get the 49” XF90 for around £850. LG do some fald sets but contrast is poor - not an issue if they watch with lights on. The SK9500 is the model, I think

That sounds interesting at Richer Sounds probably cheapest I've seen it. Certainly worth considering especially if RS do one of the TV off codes they throw out every now and then.
Cheers for that

Do you think she would care at all that it's a FALD tv? Could also prefer a user friendly OS rather than a FALD set.
The 55XF90 started at £1699, it's already at discounted levels. I see it priced at £999 at loads of shops in pricespy ... (edit: I guess the £1099 was referring to the Q8?)
The Q8DN is definitely NOT worth extra cost, it simply is not a better set picture wise (but does have some useful other features like a better anti-reflection coating).

Tbh she wouldn't know what fald was but I would and I'm not sure an edge lit will give the same blacks a fald can give with good local dimming, that's why I'm discounting the LG sets cos most reports refer to really bad blooming and poor local dimming algorithms.
My earlier comments about the q8 being overpriced were very much the full list price which were silly in my opinion.
I did spot the 2019 Panasonic 55gx820 at a good price (£899) but I'm not familiar with the edge lit side of things from them, basically how much worse are the blacks likely to be?
Maybe I'm being too particular as my sets are traditionally towards the higher end and I'm starting to suspect I'm applying my own buying approach and requirements to sets that just cant match my expectations for the money. .ummm

I wouldn't advise the Q8NF, I got one this week and it went straight back. The DSE was all over it.

I'm torn between the B8 (Amazing picture, but white tints) or the Sony 900xf (Hopefully with little DSE, I hear uniformity is alot better)
