I loaded the up-date on the 13th July, no problems since then.
I downloaded the new one from the Toshiba website & followed the instruction from there as well.
I have now received a USB stick from them complete with instructions, these instructions are different from the website but do the same thing.

I got my memory stick from Toshiba today, put it in the TV and nothing.
Restarted TV while holding down the power menu - nothing
Tried the memory stick in 3 different computers and they all reported it dead (including the Linux machine).
Managed to find an old 1Gb memory stick the wife was using for her car mp3 - put the firmware on that, insterted it and it promptly told me it had failed. Forgot to take it out when the telly restarted and it updated the firmware on its own lol.
All seems fine now apart from a couple of minutes ago, the telly just turned itself off for 10-15 seconds then back on again - the power light stayed green but you could hear the internal relay click on and off.

I have this tv and ive never updated it. Its never been connected to a tv aerial. I am on firmware 2.1.51.2. I have downloaded the file from toshiba mentioned, 2.1.77.2 and put the both the files on a FAT 1gb thumb drive. When I press and hold menu and hold power button , nothing happens at all. Red light doesnt go out, nothing. When I plug thumb drive into tv with it switched on it tries to do the update but says failed and asks me to remove thumb drive and the tv reboots.
I am having no trouble with the tv at all, is there any need for me to update really even?
Anyone have any idea where I am going wrong?

I updated the firmware on my TV some time ago.The reason was that the TV would appear to lock up (see earlier threads) but could be fixed by stopping it checking for over the air updates, but 2.1.77.2 was released to fix the problem. I had a similar problem with the download on to a USB stick so I contacted Toshiba. They sent me a USB stick with the files already loaded (they may still do this if you call them, customer service is very good). The instructions that came with the stick were different from whats on the Toshiba website. I have given a summary below but it sounds like this is roughly what you are doing exceptfor the factory resets.
The instruction I have say.....
Reset the TV to its factory settings and retune the TV.
Ensure the TV is switched on.
Plug in the USB stick.
A firmware update information message should appear on the screen.(if not, unplug the stick and plug it in again)
Use the right arrow key and select "ok"
The firmware update process will begin. (Don't touch anything while its updating,)
When its complete, a message will appear saying its complete and asking to remove the stick so remove the stick
The TV will go into standby and then turn itself on. It may take a few minutes, don't touch it.
To complete the update you must reset the TV. This returns the TV to its factory settings and you need to retune again.

Just to clarify whilst the firmware is the same from a functionality point of view, the packaging of the files and therefore the installation of the firmware itself will differ.
If you are downloading it via www.toshiba-om.net and ending up on Toshiba's download server then you will need to follow the instructions to initiate the update and to be honest it is a bit fiddly.
If you are sent the USB stick by Toshiba Customer Services or they provide a link to an FTP site (with a password) then the firmware is packaged differently but that installs much easier and you can just put the USB stick in and the TV should recognise the update.
Unfortunately the filenames are the same for both types of packaging so you can't really tell by looking which one you have.
Hope that helps.

Hi, Just a quick question. I discovered this thread this morning and updated the firmware. everything seems to have gone smoothly and it responds much faster from stand by (so far, not had long to test it).
However I have I a worry that I might have 2 faults as it still doesn't turn on every time with the full power down option. Does anyone ever have a crackling / static noise when turning on?
The TV makes this noise and doesn't always start. could there be a hardware fault as well? I'm going to do a bit more searching but thought I'd ask here just in case.

The on-off switches are suspect on this and smaller screen models and will make an arcing noise if faulty...and, obviously, will have intermittent power on.
If you're experienced and have the skills and want to replace it yourself replacement switches are available from
CHS - replacement remote controls, instruction manuals, audio & video accessories, electronic components & spare parts
Just enter the model no (less the last two "DB" digits) in the search box for availability and prices.
