I've got same problem with a 6 month old 42XV635D. Also found it I hold down the standby button for about 10-15 seconds till the red light goes off, then release the button it comes on.

Filled in a support form on the Toshiba website.

Will check out the other forum.

After 3 months of faultless use, yesterday my Toshiba 32RV635D started exhibiting EXACTLY the same problem. Very odd!

And I've had the exact same problem since yesterday. Has anyone had any response from Toshiba?

Hi all,

I also experienced this issue since yesterday on my 42XV635DB, and googling came up with nothing, so I just watched on my laptop via the Slingbox instead.

This morning I decided to get it fixed or replaced (its still under warranty) so I called Amazon.co.uk (where I bought it), and they put me through to a Toshiba technician. He said that many 635s are having this issue right now because the TV tries to auto update its firmware over the air, and because of a bug, when it fails, this stand-by issue happens. He talked me through the setup menu to disable over the air updates and to disable auto channel updates to prevent this problem in the future. He also took my details and said that they would send a USB stick with an updated firmware that fixes the issue, and that it will arrive in the next few days.

So, if you bought your TV from Amazon, call them up and get Toshiba to send you the update, and in the meantime, disable the auto update and the issue will go away (supposedly). I just changed my settings, will check back in an hour to see if it still comes out of stand-by mode.

HTH

Edit:
How-To (this applies to 42XV635DB, but might work on others):
Press the menu button
Navigate to the setup menu (the cog)
Select "Software Upgrade" near the bottom
In that sub-menu, disable auto updates and return
Now, select DTV settings, and set auto channel update to off. (If it is disabled, change your input to TV instead of HDMI or whatever it was)

Now the stand-by issue should not happen anymore. But you should still contact Amazon (or wherever you bought it, and get the updated firmware).

All very strange. Our xv 635 has been ok today(so far), but i have to say, i have never had the auto software update feature switched on as we don't even watch or use DTV, Just use the tv to view sky via an amp, so that could be a red herring.
(the tv has been stuck in standby 3 times in the past 3 days).

For reference, the disable updates has sorted the problem on my XV635 but it required a hard power cycle to finish the job. Putting it into standby after disabling the update resulted in it locking up after half an hour. After a power cycle its been fine.
