Philips Hue Play lightbars
I currently have a cheapo chinese LED lightstrip round my TV and I am wanting to upgrade it to the HUE play bars.I have a 65" TV and wondering how many I would need? I am thinking two but judging by the size of them i might have to get 3. The chinese strip so far is brilliant but I would prefer smart control and links to my lights.
my other option is to mount Philips LED strip or a couple of blooms. I am hoping 2 bars is sufficient though. It massively depends on your TVs location and the likely effect you want to create.
3 will undoubtedly be better for syncing light effects to the screen if that's what you want. One each for the left, right and top of the screen. Bit you'd need to have enough space behind the TV
If you have space behind the TV and just want adjustable backlighting then 2 plays should be ample to light the area.
Wall mounted TVs in my opinion don't really lend themselves to the play bars. However Hue strips are only capable of 1 colour at a time so around ideal for effects like ambilight. My TV is about 15cm from the wall on its stand. I now have two playbars and it aint enough imo. also my TV is curved so i have a slight black spot in the middle. Will add an extension at some point.
Absolute rip off for what they are mind. Cheap plastic tat but they do work fantastic.
Once the sync box comes out they will be even better. Have you heard about Dreamscreen? DIY Ambilight setup.
I was going to bite the bullet but ended up leaving it as my TV isn’t on the wall but on a stand in the corner. Didn’t imagine the effect would be how I wanted and the colours probably merge. not a fan of dreamscreen. its the tatty looking strip lights that constantly fall off. I also want the system all integrated with each other. itll still be fine in the corner.
I know a lot of people who have done this. You maybe surprised. purchase the bars, you could always send back if not happy : )
