CCTV system help
Hi guys,I’m looking to install CCTV in my new house and need some help.
I’ve read around and it seems hikvision seems to be the way to go.In terms of requirements:
- 8mp preferably, even though I will mostly monitor from mobile or abroad in case of an event I would like high res images recorded.
- excellent night capability
- 4 cameras
- I have a Synology but a dedicated recording box would be neater.
- POE - I.e a single cable is preferable.
Are the dark fighter cameras worth the extra? Are there better cameras at a lower res than 8mp for the same money that are worth considering?
Rough Budget of 2k installed(recommendations for reading area?) or 1.5k uninstalled.
thats not a hard budget, just what seems sensible.I’m open to higher specs too.
I would prefer it installed as I really don’t have the time these days to do it, but if I have to I will.
I’ve looked at a couple of local cctv companies and they seem to have terrible reviews - so recommendations are most welcome.
While we are at it I have a texecom premier alarm fitted, does anyone have a good recommendation for management and monitoring? 8mp is total overkill for domestic CCTV, it’s just going to take up storage space and processor power with little or no gain. If you are viewing on a phone your substream will only be 640 x 480. Darkfighter is definitely worth considering. Personally I would look at4 or 5 MP Darkfighters. Your budget for what you want is way beyond what you need to spend, unless the install is super challenging. Thanks for the response. Can you recommend some dark fighter cameras and recorder models? Also which do you recommend, turret, bullet or some?I know technically there’re about the same but in terms of weather and spiders, is one better than another? The install would just take the cables into the loft so nothing too difficult.Getting to the corners of the loft to fish the cable out may be the hardest part I guess.
There are so many cameras tho it’s very hard to understand which is best. Are the new colour vue ones worth considering too?
I understand the sub stream will be low res but in the case of a theft or other issue the recording wouldbe in maximum resolution to indentify what happened. For a one off up front extra of a 500-1000 it seems to make sense to go for 8k to me overkill or not.
Are the varifocal easy to use?Do they auto zoom to auto detected regions?I’m considering one of these for one particular spot.
I work from home with expensive equipment left overnight on occasion, and this would be paid for by the business so that’s another reason for going all out. PM me and I can talk to you in more detail.
