So bad that it was sort of fun to watch...

Well, I knew that I was most likely in for something of a dubious nature when I sat down to watch the 1984 "The Dungeonmaster" movie. So why did I watch it? Well, because I have been playing Dungeons & Dragons for well over 30 years, so of course a title like "The Dungeonmaster" had me intrigued.

Right, well this was indeed a campy movie. But still, it was so campy and cheesy that it was actually enjoyable in a very strange and bizarre way. Sure, most of the storyline was just random stuff put together, because it didn't really make much of narrative sense.

The special effects in the movie were obviously very early 1980s, but that does have a certain charm to it. I will say that the creature effects were actually somewhat good for the demonic creatures.

Jeffrey Byron carried the movie quite well with his charm and on-screen presence. And Richard Moll was actually interesting enough as a villain, just a shame his appearance was so laughable. He definitely have a very iconic voice that is very well suited for a villanous character.

I was really impressed with the computer that Paul had at hand, and the extraordinary things that the computer could manage to do, often with just a single press on a random button. That was just so goofy that it was fun to witness.

So was this a movie that you have to watch in order to have a complete record of movies watched? Hardly so. Was it a memorable movie? No, not by a long shot. Is it a movie that you will watch more than once. Definitely not.

score 4/10
