I leave mine on standby (0.3W). TBH I wouldn't actually buy an amp that didn't have a soft standby via remote and/or 12v trigger - my amp has both (Yamaha A-S2100).
Main reason I wouldn't not leave an amp on is depending on their design they can remain quite warm and I dnt suppose being on and warm 24/7 is great for the life of some of the components (caps).
Anything more than a couple of watts is bad and unless its an AVR with pass-through,it should be below a watt.
There is an argument for steady state too but electronic components can age especially if the manufacturer has skimped a bit and got for a nearer spec ones.I am thinking of my Samsung monitor which caps failed as they were rated too lower really.
There are a number of products on the market where the manufacturer actually recommends leaving fully powered on, the Naim Dac v1 being one such device. All my kit with stand-by modes are left in stand-by but my Rega has just a push button on/off, no stand-by and no on/off on the remote either. If I listen to music early in the day then I do tend to leave the Rega powered up for the rest of the day but I do turn it off before going to bed, usually around 1 am so it could be powered on for 14 hours some days.

Hi - I know the topic might be quite old. But have a similar type of question. My amplifier (Rega Elicit R) has just a on/off button. But this also means my wife (no, no names ;-), regularly forget to switch off and on before going to sleep. I am thinking of the following:
1. Leave the amplifier (and the dac) on "on"
2. add a power plug (on which I plug the ampli) that can be either connected (mobile) or switched on/off via a specific remote.
Does it make sense? Would it damage my amplifier if I leave it on and only use the power plug to switch on/off? I am wondering of switching on (and sending current) not using the original system...

I power my Elicit off at the main's wall socket as that's the easiest option for me. Almost two years of ownership and no problems using it this way. I can see no problems in what you are proposing.
The figure of 50 watts must be a typing error. Or else the statement on Standbyis in error. A full blown class A amplifier at 25 watts per channel will be 50 watts when no signal is being processed ,but otherwise powered up.A monster Class ABamplifier of 100 watts per channel and 70 % efficiency ,will drop down to maybe 10watts consumption on quiet passages
..neither of these are Standby modes.

I can put my A38 into standby using my AVR remote (no idea why). Officially there is no standby option, it's either on or off.
My Brio is either off or on. What would be the exact benefit of leaving it on?
