Marantz 5005 Cd player

Hi folks, need a little Help with deciding whether to buy the marantz cd 5005.
Currently using an old Sony cdp-xe220 connected via optical cable to a yamaha a-s301.
Now my question is, would buying the marantz and connecting via rca therefore using the dac in the marantz be night and day compared to digital connection via amp.
Are the DAC's in the marantz and my yamaha amp comparable or are their worlds apart.
Thanks.

The Marantz 5005 is their entry level player but is shares the the same DAC as the highly regarded CD6006UKSE, which is a great sounding player. I suspect you would notice a, hopefully, small improvement but I wouldn't expect night and day. What about the current sound are you wanting to change?

Hi costello. Tbf I'm OK with the sound on the yamaha digital input, it improved slightly from the Sony cd player via the analogue connections. Sounds brighter. I was just hoping I could get more improvement by upgrading the cd player itself. Hoping to get better separation in the soundspace, more air to it if that makes sense.
Was also looking at the NAD BEE 521 and 515 second hand?
Any suggestions for getting an improved sound for a budget of around 150 - 200 pounds
Thanks

What speakers are you using? This is usually the best way to improve sound

i doubt you'll notice a huge difference.

i have a budget sony and amarantz cd6004 amongst my collection of cd players.its very minimal difference.. im happy with both. the marantz is perhaps a little quieter and a tiny bit more detail in the treble.

Running q acoustics 3020's.
Will probably upgrade once I have a few more pounds but I believe their are pretty great speakers in that price range.
Maybe the best idea would be to wait till I can save enough to upgrade full system?

How was the sony cdp xe220 rated around the time it was released, I bought it for 7 pounds so it has served me very well.

They’re good little speakers and the Yamaha is a good amp. Sony transports are reliable too. I don’t think there is anything you can do to that system for £150 which will give a huge difference. I agree you should save a few pennies until you’ve got £300ish for some new speakers.

newer doesn't mean better

the marantz may be just a sideways step or downgrade

I had thought of the 5005 as a possible replacement of my 6000 OSE (I have a separate post on this) as a cheaper solution than the 6006 ukse - I didn't know the 5005 and 6006 shared the same dac - any thoughts TIA

the same dac is also used in other marantz cd players, such as the the cd6004, cd6005, cd6006.

cirrus logic 4398

the uk edition has the same dac as the non uk version.

i believe the cd5005 lacks some features to cut the cost down, such as no usb.

my thoughts are that its a very minor. the £150-300 would see a bigger difference elsewhere in the system such as better speakers or amp.
