Rega Planar 6 w AniaMC, Klipsch RP500-M, and...?

Hi everyone,

I think I created a thread on a system a while ago but am now solidifying what I'm getting and wanting. I've already purchased the Klipsch RP500-M's, I would have liked the 600's but I have a small listening room so I think it'd have been overkill and am sure these will be more than enough punch for the size of it. I'm definitely going to be getting the Rega Planar 6 with MC Ania, I just don't know which amp to connect them to.

I'm not really looking for an expensive one, I was thinking maybe the Rega Brio - definitely don't want anything more expensive than that. Tips with what would work well with these two would be greatly appreciated.

Also just looking for general advice, I don't need anything further than this right? EDIT, I don't have to buy a sperate MC phono stage? The TT will play straight with just the amp and speakers? I think down the line I'd like a DAC of some sort to stream music from my MAC and not just have to use the TT, and perhaps much, much further down the line being able to link the speakers to a gaming system as well as the TT, no idea if it's possible to have it all connected but it's not a worry for now.

Any thoughts and opinions would be much, much appreciated.

The Brio has a good phono input and the Klipsch are one of easiest of all speakers to drive. Easy enough to get an audition of the Brio and I strongly suggest you go for such an audition or even apply for a home demo. No matter how much you've read or been recommended we are all different and you need to satisfy your own ears.

Overkill. No such thing. Just an eye on the future. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Happy with the Klipsch order, probably could have gone for the 600M but happy in ordering the 500M, as long as I don't get an import tax would have gotten them for £385 brand new which isn't too bad at all, hoping they sound great!

I don't think there's anywhere near me that has any auditioning anything Rega, let alone Rega and Klipsch in the UK.

It's just hit me, like I said, I think, if I haven't I'll say it here, I'm very, very new to all this. I understand a few bits of terminology but not much understanding of it all. If I'm to get the Rega Planar 6 with Ania MC cartridge along with the Klipsch, would the Rega Brio have a built in pre-amp that would work with MC, if not what would be a better amp to go with? Also wondering if the Brio is able to have a streamer attached to it so I can stream music from the mac through to the speakers.

I've not a TT owner relying on SACD but there are plenty of reviews on line that do highly praise the Brio's phono stage. A streamer will have to have it's own DAC as it would be needed to have an analogue connection to the Brio.

Thanks Gibbsy!

So I got the Klipsch RP500-M's in today, took a sneak peak and if they sound as good as they look I'll be in for a treat! Will hopefully get the TT around December/January time.

In regards with the brio amp, it comes with a built in phono stage, but will it still be able to work if the cartridge on the TT is a MC instead of a MM? I don't have to buy a seperate piece for it do I? I will be able to play vinyl with just the Rega Planar 6 Ania MC, Klipsch and the Brio?

I'm not totally 100%.... But I think the Brio only supports MM cartridge.

In fact I think that's the same for the Elex and the Elicit also.

gibbsy Publish time 28-11-2019 01:24:08

Yes, my Elicit is MM only. Not that I use a TT.

ronnierott Publish time 28-11-2019 01:24:09

Thought so....

So a MC phono stage would be required.

gibbsy Publish time 28-11-2019 01:24:11

Yes then you could use any line in.

I have the Elicit-R linked to the Planar 6 (having the Exact MM cartridge) and together they sound awesome.

Another option for the OP perhaps..... Will save buying a phono stage.
