If watching a movie with audio such as DD or DTS, then your shouldn't hear anything with it set to Bitstream.
Bitstream sends out an encodes signal for a processor / AVR to decode.LPCM sends out a "normal" stereo PCM signal any DAC can decode.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I wasn't talking about watching movies. I am actually just sending the signal from my Oppo Blu-Ray/CD player > Via Optical to Schiit Modi 2 Uber DAC > Via Analogue to Sony Receiver
This is purely to try and get the best audio performance for CDs.
So far in my tests it seems to successfully send BITSTREAM or LPCM from the OPPO to the DAC and I can't hear a difference between the two so far, so I guess this means that DAC is capable of decoding either.

Yes for CDs bitstream and LPCM will be identical output as LPCM is the format on a CD.Basically bitstream means without conversion vs LPCM which is telling the player to convert to the LPCM format.

Right. That clears that up. Thank you.
Is there any trick to successfully sending SACD audio out to a DAC? I can't seem to hear anything from these. I assume that's some kind of copyright lockout scenario?

You can't send SACD that's correct.
It is actually possible to get your Oppo adapted to send DSD over PCM (DoP) to a compatible DAC, but your DAC isn't compatible with DoP.

Right. That's cool to know. I'm pretty happy with the SACD sound quality directly from Oppo to Sony Receiver anyway, so it's no biggie. Also I can stream downloaded HD Tracks DSD files from Audirvana to my DAC and they sound great (even if technically the DSD is being converted to PCM, it still sounds amazing).

As I can recall it now ... Audiopraise :: Specialist in digital electronics and signal processing ... Are the boards offering digital output (PCM conversion and DoP) for Oppo.

Thanks for the link. May follow up sometime, but more likely to upgrade my Oppo to a newer model first.

Hi, I want to ask about the latency of DACs.I recently bought a little DAC to use between my Xbox One (optical out) and my Cambridge Audio 840v2 amplifier, for playing Rocksmith (a guitar game).Unfortunately, I get a delay of something like a tenth of a second between playing a note on my guitar and the sound coming out of the speakers.I didn't get this noticeable delay with my Xbox 360, which has analogue audio outputs, and it's annoying that I get a worse delay with the more recent hardware.
I've looked through this thread and searched on the forum and I haven't seen much information on the latency of DACs.Elsewhere I've read that this should be negligible - perhaps around 2-5 ms, which isn't much in the context of the lag I'm experiencing of something like 100ms.However, I wonder whether some (particularly cheap) DACs might be much slower?
Of course, if you're listening to a CD then a delay of 1/10s is unimportant, but in my situation, where I'm playing the guitar and want to hear the amplified note without a noticeable delay, it's a different matter.
I'd be willing to buy a more expensive DAC if it solves my problem (within reason - this isn't high-end hifi, so I won't be spending hundreds of pounds), but I don't want to do that unless I'm pretty sure that's the problem.
The DAC that I bought was this one (on Amazon Germany) - there are loads of little DACs like that, and they all look much the same so I picked one more or less at random (obviously looking at reviews, features and price).
Any thoughts?

Are you able to adjust the audio delay on the xbox?
I don't think the dac is at fault and more an issue with the Xbox as there seems to be a fair few complaints about audio delay when using optical output on the Xbox one.
