Nokia 8 With O2 WiFi Calling?
Anyone using this combo?I need to switch providers after BT's latest cock-up. I ordered a Three SIM but that was a disaster so that only leaves EE or O2. I know EE will work as it's the same as BT but would rather not use them given the choice. So anyone successfully using O2 WiFi calling on a Nokia 8? Any hurdles to jump through? With Android it’s not that clear cut as some require their ROM to do that. I would really recommend to check with O2 themselves and make it working part of the contract. Thanks but that should only really apply where networks have their own firmware, which I don't believe anyone does for the Nokia 8. Easy enough (in theory) to try & can just cancel in the calling off period, but would save time if I could confirm someone had it working. If it helps anyone else I can confirm that it doesn't work, neither did Three. It seems like network operators are using this feature to tie you to their service. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Yes, found this with EE. My old Sony Xperia Z1 (locked to EE), just died, so I’m using my wife’s old Samsung Galaxy S5 (unlocked) until I decide what new phone to go for. EE supports wifi calling on the S5 but only if you have their ROM installed, which of course has their own bloatware. That’s really annoying.
Clem I installed EE firmware on an O2 S5 for the same reason & there was no bloatware.
Annoyingly I've now found that O2 don't enable WiFi Calling by default, you have to ask for it. So maybe it would have worked but I'm not going through all that again. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Interesting about the EE rom for the S5. TBH, the phone is so old now, stuck in Android 6, I probably won’t bother, but if you could share details of how you went about it, that would be helpful. Did you do the flash using the Kies software?
Clem I followed this guide using Odin, no need to root. There may be better guides out there now if you Google. This was discussed in detail on a thread on the BT forums & the only issue I seem to recall was some phones had to have their ROM space repartitioned as the target ROM was larger than the default. Think there's an option in Odin to do that automatically. Cheers.
