Would transfering apps to an SD card help and if so what's the easiest way to do this please

Looks like honor phones don't support adoptable storage. You'd find it under Settings >Apps if it was there. So you might have to root the phone, which she's not going to do anyway, and use an app to move them.

Not convinced moving apps would achieve what your trying to do anyway. If you did manage to move the apps to SD they would probably become unreliable anyway and impact the performance of the phone even further. SD cards such as those offered by Sandisk are inherently unreliable.

Sounds like the only sensible thing is to do the factory restore, which ironically she could have done many times over by now.

Probably a bit late but you never mentioned clearing the CACHE and DATA in the phones apps which depending on what she has been using can make a big difference. Doing a reset will sort that out but in time you’ll be back to square one unless you occasionally clear some of the cache out at the very least. apps which claim to do this usually don’t help. Also anti virus will slow the phone a bit.
