New mobile advice please

I think it's time to replace my Moto G bought in 2014 (!) although it still does the basics well.

Because I'm a bit hard of hearing and we live in an area where reception can be patchy to say the least I need something with good reception and sound quality. Latest android software and regular updates, not likely to be out of date any time soon and, I guess, not likely to be involved in Trump rows with China

Used mainly as a phone I don't need ultra camera quality or fast gaming. Also, no need for big phone

I have read reviews on current Moto G but sound seems a bit iffy and can't quite see why they need 3 versions

£200 absolute limit but nearer to £100 if possible

All ideas welcome, many thanks

In my experience the best phones for reception are the expensive ones, for the sound quality I’d look at YouTube reviews and see what they say about the speaker quality , I have a Nokia 7.1 and while the sound is Ok for YouTube videos, its poor for phone calls , a friend has a Samsung s9 and it seems to have a good speaker, but over budget

a Xiaomi note 7, mi 8se are well under £200. for not much more you can get a poco f1 with the smaller capacity 64gb. all great phones, reliable, great cameras, long battery life, plenty of regular updates..

i have the note 5 and still reviewing regular updates, super smooth and reliable, running Android 9.

how is your note 5 receiving regular software updates?

i get notifications, simply hit the update button and it updates automatically.

if you don't want to be notified, i can turn it off.

@BM08 is not asking about notifications. The Samsung note 5 is no longer officially supported by Samsung for security or android system updates, so are you installing a custom ROM?

I don't have a Samsung phone. My phone is made by Xiaomi.

Might be too late now, but YouTube reviews say the Xiaomi mi a3 has a good call speaker and good reception.
