XZ2 Premium 2.4GHz Link Speed issue ??!

Hi guys and girls... I have a Xperia XZ2 Premium and extremely happy with the handset.

I have a an issue.. I was experimenting with my WiFi the other day and I feel this maybe a bug within Andriod Os 9 Pie.

I have a fairly decent TP-Link AC2600 router. My link speed with my XZ Premium is 866mbs on the 5Ghz band and also on my previous handset XZ Premium.

However something is not correct as when I switch to 2.4GHz band my XZ2 Premium shows link speed of only 72mps https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/joypixels/[email protected]/png/64/1f644.png??!

Yes if a try 2.4GHz band on my previous handset XZ Premium links speeds shows as 144mps.

Now I have reset my router and all that but basically router is working absolutely fine. My laptop links up with my router and reports link speed of 289mps using 2.4GHz band and 1300mps using 5Ghz band.

So guys any of you have any idea spoken to Sony Xperia UK and tbey said try "Network reset" which I did and still no luck.

Something is very odd here how can a newer 2018 model report only 72mps link speed and my older 2017 model report 144mps.

I am not going to do a "factory reset" on my XZ2 Premium which may or may not fix the issue as its ages to get my handset back up and running.

And with Andriod 10 update around the for corner I'll wait till then to do a "fresh install" from scratch.

Are you testing speeds via one of those internet browser upload / download test sites or another method?

Is there a tangible or practical real wold difference because whatever the router spec there are some ppl who would not get 72mps

Is there a bandwidth setting on the router. Maybe change the type of security and see if the phone likes that more

Hi @Steven thanks for the reponce very kind of you.

Firstly I'll explain a little more this is not Firbre Braodband bandwidth test so speedtest is obviously not used for this issue.

I have used both Andriod Wi-Fi settings to show me under system settings and Andriod app WiFi analyzer so I can see links speeds and both - dbm signal strength and that's definitely not and issue on average showing around 38-40 - dbm so pretty strong.

This is the physical speed or link speed between 2 devices in this case my XZ2 Premium handset and my router.

So under WiFi settings my XZ2 Premium is only reporting 72mps which is strongly believe is incorrect.Via the 2.4GHz band. Now I made sure under the router settings its set under Auto for both channal and frequency so in this case router showing Channal 1 and frequency of full 40hmhz.

For my 5Ghz link speed is perfectly fine as Iv actually manually set that my to channal 48 and set the frequency to 40mhz instead of 80mhz I don't need 866mps and I would rather have a very rock solid connection so my XZ2 Premium correctly shows link speed at only 400mps as its not binding the extra bands.

Anyway... My case is for the 2.4GHz band how is it that previous handset (XZ Premium) shows a link speed of 144mps and my Laptop with a top spec TP-Link new AC Adapter shows a link speed of 289mps.???.

XZ2 Premium is a top spec handset flagship and far more powerful than the previous XZ Premium how can it show a link speed of only 72mbps something is not quite Wrightdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

You may wish to change the frequency band of the router to say 5ghz and see if that makes a difference

Does distance to the router also do anything i.e. does taking the phone closer increase the link speed

Note link speed is only about the speed of communication between your router and the smartphone. Your actual max internet download and upload speed is subject to your plan e.g. If you are paying for 5mbps internet that is your max regardless of the router-device link speed

Edit: if this gets more technical and / or involved the thread may be moved to computing ha

It's a property of the wi-fi radio called spartial streams. At 2.4Ghz your old phone supports two, your new phone supports one and your laptop wi-fi adaptor supports three.

I'm not an electrical engineer but I gather there are trade-offs for supporting more in terms of battery life and aerial design which may be why Sony has swapped back to 1 on the band where you're not going to be going particularly fast anyway.

The figures you've quoted seem to be for 20Mhz bandwidth.
