Question Xbox One help for a complete novice

Hi
I've bought my 12 year old son's an xbox one for Xmas and gold live membership.
I understand on set up it will ask for their dates of birth and then lock the system down so they can only play games for their age. - not sure how true this is, if anyone can confirm?
I'm happy for them to play games for 16 year old (star wars and halo) but not 18s (GTA etc).
Can I cheat the system at set up by putting in false DOB's or will this cause problems.

May sound a daft question but I have no idea.
Any other hints/tips appreciated.

Hi mate, I am the master user of the Xbox One at home and Xbox Live is in my name, my daughter has a child sub account set up.

You can then have control of what they can play by setting the age restriction etc in family settings.

My daughter can play Plants vs Zombies online however she cant play Star Wars etc as I have restricted her account to games up to 12.

It's quite good as, when on Amazon video there is a padlock over movies/tv shows that have an age rating of over 12.

Hope this helps.
