Question Possible to image the X box One S hard drive ?

hi ,

I have installed several games on my x box.

I would like to know if it's possible to make a back up image of the X box hard drive ? If so , can you kindly outline instructions for doing so please ?

I would like to be able to do this in case the X box hard drive ever gets corrupted and I have to restore to factory settings, (if it's possible to then re-image the hard drive). Having an Image backup would save a lot of hassle in getting games back up and running rather than having to reinstall all individually.

Thanks.

It's no hassle to reinstall everything. It's pretty much automatic. There's only the bandwidth issue if you're not on an unlimited plan.

I can't see MS being happy with you cloning a HDD - there are likely tobe piracy concerns about it. more trouble than it's worth IMO.

Well Windows has the utility to image the hard drive built into it , I don't see that being a concern for them there, games are software after all.

You could remove the HDD and clone it like any other, but it is technically against MS's terms and conditions. It's not easy to do for the internal drive, and you'd have to do it every time you added a game.

I really can't see any benefits, it would be a considerable faff and the risks are severe.

Could you not just install and run all your games from an external HDD?

Using an external hdd would be the easiest and safest way and won't void your warranty

you can copy or move games to an external hard drive, it's really fast. That would save you having to download them again

It's technically possible but definitely not recommended.

As others have said use external HDD it's much easier and there is no performance difference vs internal so long as you use a hybrid SSHD or SSD drive.

One thing I did forget to mention when posting earlier was that when carrying out a factory reset on Xbox One there is the option listed to not delete games and apps when resetting.

Easiest thing to do is install all your games on an external HDD.
No need to reinstall if you have to replace the console.
Games saves are backed up in the cloud. So as long as you don't choose the "delete everywhere" option, you're okay.
Profile again is stored in Microsoft servers and can be easily downloaded again.
The only thing you should keep on the internal HDD is the True Achievements app, if you use it.
Keeping it on an external HDD will make its key feature, achievement guide, not work.
All apps are easily redownloaded without any fuss.

Hope this helps.
