I did something similar I had BT Infinity and switched my BT HomeHub 5 (modem and router combo) with an ASUS DSL-AC68U (as it has the VDSL modem built in) and it's working pretty well and I can get my Xbox One online and working OK.
I then switched out my parents BT HomeHub 5 with an ASUS RT-AC68U router (as they have a BT OpenReach modem screwed onto the wall) and so far that seems to be working too. They don't have any consoles but it so far has stopped the dropouts.

Setup on both wasn't too hard, just needed to make sure the username and password were correct. I used this link as a guide - Asus DSL-AC68U Configuration Settings for BT Infinity
