PS4 education needed

Sorry for a potentially dumb question.

I've googled a bit but not really getting a clear answer.

I have a PS3. Used to game a lot but barely at all now, just don't have the time. My PS3 is almost exclusively used now for Netflix and bluray viewing. I'm hoping to have a hit more time shortly so might reignite my game time a bit.

With that in mind, I have a few queries.

1 - What is the difference between PS4, PS4 slim and PS4 pro? I'm getting the impression that the pro is only really a benefit for gamers.

2 - Which (if any) of these consoles play 4k films? I don't have a 4k TV at the minute but I'm sure my next upgrade will. Don't want to have to upgrade my console too whenever I change my TV.

3 - Can I play PS3 games on the PS4?

4 - What's the going sale price these days for a PS3? I was looking at just trading in CEX but might be better to shift in the classifieds or locally.

Thanks!

1. ps4 & slim are pretty much the same, other than the casing and the skim supports 5ghz wifi bands. Both are 1080p.
The pro has a bit more power and is 4k.

2. No playstation has a uhd drive, for that you need an xbox one x. I would presume a ps4pro can do 4k from the apps like netflix etc.

3. Nope.

4. No idea, sorry.

Thanks.

I wonder if I might be better to switch to an xbox 1 then. Had an xbox and a 360 before but actually switched to ps3 because of the bluray capability.

I'll investigate.

1. I am sure PS4 Slim is now the the Standard PS4 now if buying new. It's the same as the Original PS4 but smaller and slimmer without a Optical Out so worth thinking about if you need it for Headphones or Surround Sound. PS4 Pro is a more Powerful PS4 which is capable of up to 4K Gaming for some games. Has 4K Streaming capabilities.

2. No none of them have a UHD Drive included, only console that does is the Xbox One S & Xbox One X. The PS4 Pro will stream 4K though but so would your new 4K TV.

3. Nope it's not Backwards Compatible but you can re-buy a lot of Remastered PS3 Games on PS4 or Stream/Play PS3 Games via PS Now which is there Steaming Game Service.

4. Probably not worth a lot to be honest, best checking CEX Prices or Classifieds on here or keeping it as an Extra Streamer/Blu Ray Player.

If looking to get back into gaming then the best thing to do is look at the games available for both consoles, Xbox is my preferred platform but have a PS4 Slim also but it hardly gets played.
You can get great games on both and if you are looking to play a few games and get a UHD Player then an Xbox One S would be a good choice but if you like the look of the PS4 Exclusives then maybe grab a PS4 Slim at a decent price. Not much difference in price between an Xbox One S or PS4 Slim but probably £100 difference between an Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

When I say get back into gaming, realistically I mean playing a few games of Fifa or COD now and again.

I definitely wouldn't base my choice on the available games.

On the ps3 I have an app for Netflix, I have a Bluetooth remote that the wife finds more user friendly than a controller and I can play blurays. Those are my minimum requirements to be honest, anything else is a bonus.

I' a looking to make the exchange for around £100. Checked this morning and the likes of CEX will give me around £60/70 for my ps3, controllers and games.

I'd go Xbox one s if I was you.£100 to change might be a bit tight. If you look around you can get a 500gb one for 180ish. I think Tesco had some offers on.

I'm a PlayStation user, but I'd agree with Crafty on this one probably. If you're only looking to use a console for the occasional bit of gaming on multi platform games and want UHD disc compatibility the Xbox One S is your best bet.

I'm happy to go second hand too btw.

Been reading up a bit more and yes, the xBox One S sounds the part.Off to the classifieds I go...

Another quick question, although I'm veering off topic now for this forum.

Am I right in thinking that you need to pay for online access with xBox?I seem to remember that being the case. When I last had an xbox I didn't game online anyway so it was no big deal but I've been on PS3 for years now.

Actually I'd be better off starting a thread over there. Thanks all.
