Cheapest way to replace a broken PS4?
We have a bust PS4 which is well out of warranty. Sony want £125 to repair it. So I thought maybe I would just try to replace the unit; no games, Dual Shocks or cables etc required. Any ideas on the cheapest way to replace it?TIA. That is the cheapest way. Thanks. Thought that probably was the case. Sell the busted one as "Faulty, spares or repairs only" on Ebay/Shpock/Gumtree etc. Someone will buy it.
Put the money towards a new one. Yeah, did think about that.
One went on classifieds for £150 with a controller. I could also sell the controller and probably work out cheaper than a repair. Bust how?
If it’s out of warranty have you considered attempting self repair? Keep your eye open on the forum classifieds for a fellow member perhaps selling one.
Martin. Won’t play some games.
I thought it was an optical drive issue, but a couple of downloaded games also won’t work. They freeze on the start up screen.
I spoke to PlayStation support who said it has to be sent to them. One guy suggested it might be a known problem with the graphics chips on early models.
The fans are also always on full tilt, so it’s very noisy, despite the fact I have striped it down (the beat I could) and cleaned it out with an air can. Not sure if this problem is related, could be I guess if a GFX chip over heating. Have you tried putting a different hard drive in it? It could just be a faulty hard drive causing the problem.
Don't forget that disc games are installed and played off the hard drive. It doesn't play the game directly off the game disc. After the initial game install, all the disc is there for is just to confirm you own the disc.
