How do I get surround sound on ps4
Can anyone tell me how to get surround sound on my ps4? I have it set up for hdmi for surround sound as I have my optical lead going from TV to the surround sound system.I recently had bother getting surround sound on my LG TV and LG surround sound system. And the problem was within sound out. Digital sound out had to be changed from pcm to auto.
I have my settings for external speaker (optical/HDMI/ARC) because I can control my volume with Sky remote and TV control. And it works well with sky and Netflix now.
Plus because I don't have optical lead going into the ps4, which would be wrong anyway. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
I solved the issue I had to change sound to dolby bitstream on ps4 sound options, seems to me your better off leaving your TV sound to dolby digital plus. To support streaming from your phone, I don't know if you get DD on your phone on YouTube Netflix e.g. Am I correct? HDMI-ARC & optical is limited to PCM 2.0 (stereo) Dolby/DTS 5.1.
LG TV's default to PCM stereo with ARC active so changing it to auto is what allows passing Dolby/DTS 5.1 audio. So then on PS4 you must change to Dolby/DTS bistream to get 5.1 over ARC.
Uncompressed PCM 5.1/7.1 audio is only possible if running the PS4 through a sound system with HDMI pass-through or the next gen HDMI-eARC standard which is very new & needs the TV to support it.
As for the streaming from phone I wouldn't count on 5.1 audio unless it is loading up the app on the TV like Netflix which then plays the video stream with DD active. Youtube supports 5.1 on it's movies I think but everything else is stereo. Thank you for your help. I understand.
