Durp durp deeeep!
Oh the time spent playing Mario Circuit 1 of the Mushroom cup over and over and over with Toad and ghost running. If memory servers me right, 49 seconds was the fastest with Bowser or Kong but they had a high top speed with poor acceleration, where Toad had good speed but not at the top end. I had a time of around 52. And this was from magazines, as the intermaweb was not even a twinkle in Tim's eye.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Play it occasionly on SNES emulator on my big tv, but the old feel good factor kicks in, and you want the feel of the cartridge and the intamacy that a 14" CRT huddled over your SNES can bring.
data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Although I've enjoyed nearly all the Mario kart games that have been released since (with Mariokart Wii being the best of them), none of them come close Super Mario Kart on the Snes.
When I first started playing it at 11 years old my two older brothers convinced me that Toad and Kooper were the best characters because of their acceleration. I was behind them in terms skill for a while but once I got better at them I started playing with different characters to give myself more of a challenge. I ultimately settled on Bowser and was pretty much unbeatable by anyone that I knew at the time. I used to really p!ss my brothers off!
The best video game ever.
In fact I'm going to get it on the Wii Virtual Console and enjoy some nostalgia. This is still my favourite game of all time - 24 years on, its still the cause of most of the arguments between me and my brother
