Which wine to accompany which food?

I believe there are some wine drinkers on this forum that may have some good suggestions on which wine goes well with certain food. So if you're curious, or looking for a combo to flummox, post a meal below.

I'll start with Chicken Tikka Massala, we're having this tonight and wondered what wine you'd drink with it? I know, I know, 4 tins of Carling is the obvious suggestion, but which wine would suit?

Surely a good Tikka Massala would swamp the taste of most wines - so I would drink the wine I wanted to carry on drinking later in the evening.

Well the obvious answer is often the right answer.I have never ever thought that wine and curry work together.The power of the curry spices justs blasts the wine away.I would stick to beer.But if you really must then...

Find a light refreshing wine that does not try to take on the curry in a fight.Personally I would try something light, white and lightly sparkling.A chilled vinho verde from portugal or you could try some Pino Grigio (Italian).Something not too pricey with a bit of sparkle to clean the palate.Some of the white wines of the Loire (vouvray for instance) may be worth a try if you're feeling esoteric.I think that any of the other cheap sparkling wines like Cava, etc have too much sugar and will linger on the palate.

If you want something wthout fizz, what about a nice New Zealand Chardonnay?

As others have said a wine is as good as wasted with a curry.
Same as above - Pino wouldn't go too bad, but beer is probably your best bet.

Indeed, but not everyone attending drinks beer.

Can wine really be defeated by curry? Just for the record, half the people eating tonight will not drink beer, hence the question and my initial nod to the beer / curry combo data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I have found any decent red wine is lost once you have a curry I find a cheap £4 bottle goes just as well as a more expensive bottle.

I cant really agree with that and surely it must depend on ones taste buds. Of course that might be the case if you have having the hottest of curries and again, the hotness depends on ones palate. My favourite curries are tikka madras or jalfrezi and those can range from medium to very hot (jalfrezi in particular), but I find I prefer to drink red wine which I can very much savor with my curry.
