Morton's Neuroma - anyone else suffered?
Been getting excruciating pain in my right foot for about 7 weeks now, we to the docs about 5 weeks ago who prescribed anti inflammatory and pain killers.2 weeks ago they sent me for an x-ray, and I was told that everything is normal take pain killers and it will sort itself out.
Yesterday I had enough and went back to see another doc who said I had got this neuroma (benign tumor?) and will need an ultrasound to confirm how bad it was and whether it was between my first (big) and second as well as second and third toes.
I have private medical, which is a good job as he said it was quite specialist and I'm looking between 8 and 12 weeks on a waiting list for the scan. Private, I'm in next Friday (13th data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7) with the consultant surgeon.
Anyway, who's had what done, what worked and what didn't etc.
Thanks,
Sam got the same thing, its horrible.normally play 5s 2 or 3 times a week but have stopped cos of it.
Seems the nerve in between the metatarsals is pretty much done and the most effective treatment is removal of the nerve which means 6 weeks or so of recovery too data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 This treatable - I had it 5 or so years ago and was treated by a physio and it's never come back. What you need to do is get some thick gauze from a first aid kit and cut three circular shapes from it - each one slightly smaller than the other and make a kind of pyramid from them. Stick the pyramid (small end uppermost) onto the bottom of your foot in the rough area of the pain so that it feels like you have something in your shoe. Walk normally on this for a week or so and it should free the nerve that is trapped over that time.
Mine was nowhere near chronic and really only happened when I first got out of bed for the first 10 or so steps so I was easy to help - hopefully this will work for you also.
Edit - just been informed this called a Plantars Pad so might be worth looking up...Strutz Foot Arch Support Plantar Fasciitis Heel Pain Aid Foot Feet Cushioned: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors Had this for a few years and was in agony some weeks, doctor kept saying it was gout until I demanded a scan. Had the nerve cut out on my left foot and was pain free for 6 months then my other foot started hurting and I thought I was going to have another op.
Decided to go to the London Podiatry Centre in Lewisham and I wish I'd gone there before I'd had my first op as they were brilliant. Turns out I've got hyper mobility in my feet, ankles, knees and hips and this was causing the tumors, they did gait analysis and I ended up with custom orthotics and I've been pain free for a year now.
