Carpal Tunnel surgery

I've had problems with my left hand for quite a while and I'm seeing a consultant on Saturday who will operate immediately using local anaesthetic if thought necessary.

Has anyone else had this done?

A google search reveals the usual mix of experiences and I trust AVFers to tell me the truth.

So, how painful is it, what was the recovery time (I won't be able to drive until the stitches come out after at least 12-14 days), and most importantly - does it work?

I'm right-handed, so some things will still be OKdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Thank you. It went as well as possible but very sore and throbbing like mad.

Two weeks off work now, doctor's orders.
