Best non-alcoholic beers/wines?

I appreciate that 'least-worst' might be more appropriate than 'best' in the title but would be interested to see if anyone had any recommendations. Thought it preferable to start a new thread rather than clutter up (desecrate) the beer thread.

With baby #2's arrival a couple of months away, I've ditched the booze for the foreseeable future. Hopefully this will lead to me shifting a few inches from my waistline, too.

I've worked my way through the standard Becks Blue and Heineken offerings, and they're both okay. Wasn't keen on Brewdog's Nanny State, or Budweiser's alcohol-free beer.

The biggest disappointment was some non-alcoholic wine (or, 'wine-like drink', as the label called it) made from shiraz grapes. It smelled of tinned tomatoes and tasted far worse. I couldn't finish the glass, let alone the bottle.

Anyone know of anything else that isn't awful?

Bitburger Drive is OK from memory - I've not bothered for a while, if I'm not drinking I have water or ginger beer.

Becks Blue.

I do like ginger beer, but I'm hoping a by-product of this will be me shifting a couple of inches from my waistline, so that's out on sugar content alone. Generally do only drink water, just looking for something to have as a 'treat'.

It's the one I keep coming back to despite trying plenty of others. It's keenly priced and actually quite nice, provided it's drunk while freezing cold. I find it gets less pleasant the warmer it gets.

St Peters Without if you like malty brews.

I really want to try this but its sugar content is so much higher than all the other brands. Not a problem for most, but as a diabetic it's a problem for me. Which is a shame as I love Erdinger's normal beer.

Budweiser's Prohibition brew is very low sugar, so I tend to go with that, even though it's not the best. Not the worst either though - thats probably Bavaria 0.0 or Cobra Zero. Heineken's 0.0 effort is probably the best to my taste buds, but does have a bit of a sugar count to it, but not as bad as Erdinger. Becks Blue is a happy medium, tastes ok and not too bad sugar-wise.

St Peter’s without is definitely not for me. Best I’ve found so far is Sainsbury’s own low-alcohol (0.5 per cent) Czech lager.

I think what I can take from this is that there’s no real substitute for proper beer.
