Toasted Marzipan ???

Christmas will soon be with us.I really like Christmas cake but not that kean on icing. Generally, I’ll peel of the icing, eat the cake and the marzipan and maybe a little icing if any.

The daughter of a friend makes cakes as a small business, I had one last year and it was pretty good and now I am being asked if I want another one this year - that would be traditional finish with either fondant or royal icing.

Last year I also saw ‘toasted marzipan’ Christmas cakes gaining popularity and I wonder whether they would be a better option for me.

BUT here is the question.Toasted marzipan, is it just marzipan treated with a blowtorch or is it something different - read suggestion that it was almond paste which is similar but different.

AND what does it taste like?Does it taste just like marizan and the toasting is just for appearances or does it taste different?

Cheers,

Nigel

I would have thought marzipan   blow torch.

So would I, but toasted cheese tastes much much different to untoasted cheese, so I’m not convinced it is a foregone conclusion.

Buy some marzipan and stick it under the grill...My guess is that it will taste nuttier in the same way roasted almonds do compared with unroasted, but only you will know whether you prefer it.

Used a blowtorch when making Easter cakes tasted nice never seen a whole cake done like it.

not sure it would just melt / liquefy? but the idea sounds nice... sometimes some leftover xmas pud is nice gently fried in brandy butter.. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
