I know it might come as bit of a shock to you John, but markets are clearly manipulated by corporate bankers who own the entire system. The system as it is has become redundant which is why a new global order is being implemented. Those same corporate elites will continue to profit from, and control the system whatever future style that takes.
Not to mention Brown/Obama/Cammeron etc are just puppets for our amusement to give the casual viewer the illusion of democracy, where in fact no such state exists.
What do think the future globalised/standardised world will look like?

Unless we get off our derriers pretty soon, I think globalisation will become less of an issue and with it standardisation.
It matters not what stand you take on global warming, the policies and technologies for a more efficient world need to be discussed, developed and implemented sooner rather than later.
Unless of course you think that oil will always be readily available, gas will fill any gaps, and energy of all sorts will be, as now, supplied on demand and without limits.

Even if we do find enough oil to keep pumping at todays rates, the development of China, India, Africa and other places will soak up demand and ensure on-going pressure on supplies.

Steve's link to the worst case thinking gives plenty of food for thought. We do spend too much time scenario planning rather than just getting on with it.But wherever you stand on whatever issue, its better to have a positive outlook and want to get on rather than standing around moaning about how dire it will all get.

And my stance on CC is that I have seen nothing that to my mind undermines the basic science, climate modelling is flawed but they all seem to point in the same general direction and I also think that we have the ingenuity and technology to massively reduce our energy consumption without noticeably affecting the economy. So we should start the implementation process.
