Hive
Anyone got hive installed or thinking about getting it? Why would that be better than a timer and half decent insulation?Unless you have a job which means you suddenly disappear for days on end with no notice and have no family.Otherwise it seems like a gimmick. I'm not interested in being able to turn the heating on whilst in some other part of the country. My current mechanical thermostat is knackered so I was considering replacing it with a programmable thermostat (seen a few in Screwfix). Then I saw the Hive and thought that might do the job. Currently don`t have thermostat at all data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 so thought may as well go for Hive. Installation is on 19th Nov. Can see remote on/off being useful if delayed geting home etc, and more importantly switching on from comfort of bed at weekends //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/clap.gif I will be interested to see how that goes for you. Keep us posted! I'm waiting for Nest in the UK
That said, I have a Drayton Digistat 3which apparently has some smarts to figure out the rate of cooling in the room and adjusts boiler burn duration dynamically even though it doesn't know the outside temp. Had Hive installed on tuesday. Used for heating with combi boiler, so no need for the hot water control element of it. Install took about 1.5 hours, although i think the engineer had a couple of issues with my boilers existing thermostat (noticed he "phoned a friend" a couple of times data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 ). Other than that install very straightforward, small receiver mounted on wall and wired into boiler, thermostat unit itself (comes with wall plate for mounting but mine just on shelf in living room) and unit to plug in to router.
So far impressions are good, app works fine on ios and android, and the schedule if very customisable with different temp settings for different times of day etc etc. Having had any issues communicating back to the unit from outside on wifi or 3g (on dynamic ip and did wonder if would cause issue but hasn`t done). I too have been looking into this and it doesn't seem bad at all for £159 (not installed by BT). I was understanding it was £199 by BG? 199 for them to install or 159 for self installation mate
