Not much of an increase for my parents council tax bill (which I've helped pay at various points when I was able to work), my dad grumbled "Could have been worse, bloomin Council". Well he didn't say bloomin.....
Got back off vacation to see my official CT notice come through.
Most things gone up 3%.Save for Police at 6.6%.Overall about a 3.5% increase.
Not dissimilar to us, though I know you are quite close from previous conversations.

Can someone explain why council tax is based on value of property rather than occupants? It makes no sense to me.
If say I wanted to have an extension on my home then my council tax bill would cost even more?
Cos then it would be a poll tax which nobody likes. I still owe Camden Borough for 90/91.
Historically it was always so, back in the day of rates based on the rateable value of your property.
As Krish said, they then tried taxing people instead with the poll tax. This proved to be an unmitigated disaster, lead to riots, the downfall of Thatcher and a huge amount of unpaid poll tax. Now that's the British public speaking.
a local tax has to reflect peoples ability to pay it. Personally, i would like tp see extra tax bands inserted so the burden is shifted upwardsNear where I live there are a considerable number of £1- 3 million houses who should be taxed at a higher level as the owners can well afford it.the extra money raised could be used to either reduce the tax paid lower down or fund extra local services and amenities eg playgrounds for kids and various other social programmes
That makes no sense, the value of one's house has no significant correlation with one's income, as I'm sure you are well aware.
I'm with you on that one. To me any reasonable person would realise it is much fairer to pay per occupant. When my wife and I moved in we paid exactly the same for the two of us as did the family of 6 next door to us. It doesn't make any sense to me.
