I doubt that very much. Nice does not describe his peeing contest and/or rude behaviour in parliament, or his spin-doctored behaviour outside.
Pretty much applies to most modern ambitious career politicians.

First Bob Crow, then Tony Benn, I hope these things don't run in three's and Arthur Scargill is okay.

Tony Benn:
Genuine and clever character, flawed politics.
Success followed when he gave up politics and took up the mantle of a senior statesman.

Thanks for bringing this thread back on topic.
How the hell did this degenerate into a god/no god thread data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Maybe a friendly mod could remove all the irrelevant stuff.

Man never is, but always to be blessed,
The soul, uneasy and confined from home...

Here's a couple of quotes from Tony:
"A faith is something you die for, a doctrine is something you kill for. There is all the difference in the world".
"I made every mistake in the book, but making mistakes is how you learn. I would be ashamed if I ever said anything I didn’t believe in, to get on personally".

I've got this and would recommend it. Most of the background music is pish, but the track with his Stop The War speech worked nice.
I necro'd this thread, because of discussion in a current one about insincere, career politicians. Tony Benn was one of my favourite conviction politicians. I disagreed with his overarching belief in thestate and his socialism, but some of the things he'd say were so true. I loved his style as well. His tea drinking and diary keeping eccentricity were awesome too.
And buy this CD. Its an interesting alternative listen and a talking point for your visitors !

I like parts of this speech and not others, but one thing is for sure, he means it from the heart as well as his considerable mind. Tony Benn was inspirational to his followers. This is the track I was talking about above - the speech that works well with the chosen music accompanying it.
Everybody needs a few quirky cds or records in their collection.A Laurel & Hardy perhaps, Half Man Half Biscuit or Frank Zappa's Thing Fish. Why not this ? Its cheap enough. Impress your friends with your wacky cd collection !
