It doesn't have to be a problem, but yes I think British culture means it will change pricing and things will get rounded up.
Take Turkey or Armenia, two countries where I know the penny has gone as a coin but exists in pricing, the pricing remains the same. I must admit I wonder how the bookkeeping works in such situations, but it shows that it can be done. I wish we go to paper money only. Coins are horrible for your clothing, too heavy, make noise, stink etc...Or better, just go digital.
Ireland got rid of 1c and 2c coins and I've never noticed a difference. As per wiki...
Beginning on Wednesday 28 October 2015 Ireland followed The Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Hungary and, in introducing so-called Swedish rounding. While individual prices are still shown and summed up with 1-cent precision, the total sum is then rounded to the nearest 5 cents when paying with cash. Sums ending in 1, 2, 6 and 7 cents are rounded down; sums ending in 3, 4, 8 and 9 cents are rounded up.
No reason why the same system couldn't be used for £stg.
