Scaremongering by the govt. Aided by the press.

What a load of rubbish this is. If the govt ever felt the need to deploy the troops it was during the 2011 riots, not over this.
Treating us like fools.

3,500 troops on standby under new no-deal Brexit plans which become 'operational priority'

shoestring25 Publish time 26-11-2019 01:32:35

they will probably need these troops if they try to call another referendum

Politics thread, needs moving over.

I never buy insurance, wear a seat belt or look before I cross the road. No one is going to scaremonger me.

So what are these troops supposed to be doing?
A bit like Blair deciding to send tanks on manoeuvres around Heathrow which some sceptics said was all about boosting support for the Iraq war.

doug56hl Publish time 26-11-2019 01:32:37

I'd guess a mobile reserve of manpower which can be sent where needed.
Helping out at the ports.
Getting food and drink to the possible thousands of lorries parked up on the motorway to ports.
To be available as drivers to move stuff around if needed.
etc

Not much different, except in what they may be doing, to the deployment of troops to help out with the floods a few years back.

Well if it all ends up as a fart in a bag maybe them 3,500 troops can get into the EU army.

Logistical support, likely to move critical supplies through gridlocked ports and to prop up the Police in the case of mass civil unrest. But it's more likely May attempting to beat MP's into submission to vote for her deal. It's probably not going to work.

Irresponsible from the government and the press. As usual. Scares many people unnecessarily. Like my elderly parents for example. My dad has poor mental health and my mum struggles with him. They panic everytime they see stuff about Brexit on the TV - things like a lack of medication, food, and financial concerns.

A Sky link, no surprise there. Probably has that hideous excuse for a human being Kay Burley involved in it somewhere.
