My stance in this thread was to try and state facts without emotion and never, anywhere, did I imply that FGM was acceptable.
I would now like to make it clear that I strongly feel, and have always felt, FGM is a form of child abuse and can cause long term suffering to girls and women.
The lack of FGM convictions (until recently) has highlighted the UK law has a weakness in this area which makes it easy for those involved in this practice in the UK to evade being brought to justice.
However, some misunderstanding has led to a serious error of judgement and the sword of Damocles is now forever hovering. I apologise for any misunderstanding and shall refrain from posting in this sub-forum, or indeed GC, to ensure no further misunderstanding is likely take place.

Both are non medical permanent alterations to the body of an non consenting child solely for the benefit of parental conformity.
From a medical classification standpoint.Male Circumcision is identical to Type III female circumcision.
I'd make child male circumcision illegal too except for reasons where it is required for the health of the child.
Let's see how many of them choose to remove it when they're 18.

I had to look this up, and I cannot fathom how they are comparable.It's complete removal of the entire external genitalia and sealing the vagina, leaving small holes to urinate/bleed out of.
The male equivalent would be removal of the penis, leaving a small hole to urinate out of.
Male circumcision removes the prepuce, the female equivalent would be to just remove the clitoral prepuce.That falls under FGM I, but you'd also have to put removing the Glans of a penis under that category.
