As an aside the Lords could amend this bill to lower the voting age to 16.

Harrington and 9 other Tory rebels have just had the whip restored.

Why would we need to change the age for alcohol?

Sex is 16, driving is 17... I've no problem with alcohol staying as 18 and voting being 21.

Agree with most of that, but not citizens assemblies. We have one, it's called the House of Commons.

A royal commission led by someone from the judiciary would be the way to go.

But if England gets devolution or full independence they will be much more likely to get majorities there. So it's swings and roundabouts.

Plus things change. In 2017 the Libdems were despised by students. Now they are flavor of the month for many of them.

It wouldn't hurt the Tories to appeal to a younger group, and if it was required for electoral success they would.

I hope not Phil Hammond & Dom Grieve.

I see Nick Soames back so good choice there

So the ex Tory MPs among the 21 still on the naughty step include the six who voted against govt today for Stella Creasy amendment on election bill: Guto Bebb, Ken Clarke, Justine Greening, Dominic Grieve, Philip Hammond, Antoinette Sandbach

Glad to see these not restored. See if Hammond does his court challenge.

So someone at 23:59 before their 18th birthday suddenly becomes a mature adult at 00:01?I get that there’s a cutoff, but your choice of wording seemed very strong.

exactly. I have reservations with 18 year olds.

I would actually favour 25 over 16-17!! The brain isn’t fully developed until 25ish and that’s partly why teens into early 20’s do stupid things.

plenty of evidence out there for when brains mature, can’t be arsed to reference it all here and now.

Oh and to add, of course there are exemptions. But we can’t legislate for the exceptions.
