Music Recording and keyboard/synth/percussion software. Newbie
I got a Behringer UMX610 midi keyboard but I need some software to go with it. It just needs to be standard keyboard stuff (piano, organs, some synth, nothing too adventurous) and some drums. Also needs to work with guitar and Guitar Rig 5 which I have (from Native Instruments I think).So it'll be for recording too. Thing is I'm a newbie at this and really not sure where to start. Also nothing too expensive. Sub £300 preferably.
Any help appreciated. I'm a Logic user (Mac only) but check out these programs:
Ableton Live
FL Studio
Cubase
I used to be a Cubase user but I've never tried the other two. FL is supposed to very user friendly and is probably the cheapest at around £150. Take a look at the GSi site GSi - Soundware for musicians Their VB3 virtual Hammond is awsome and recognised as being the best out there. The Mr Ray 73 Mk2 virtual Rodes is also pretty good. Both Euros 50 each. If you have a mac then garage band is always worth a look also look at reaper audio, works onPC and mac and is fully featured to try out.
Me, I use digital performer. When you say 'software' are you asking about a DAW or software instruments ?
Reaper is very inexpensive and highly regarded DAW.You can use it for free for a while and after that it is very cheap. ($60 for a discounted licence). It is very stable and fast and many people have moved to it from other bigger names like Cubase as it is very efficient on your hardware and very stable.
If you are on a Mac the Logic X is just impossible to beat in the value stakes. Great DAW with shedloads of instruments. It would be extremely rude not to.
If you have Guitar rig you should also really be looking at NI Komplete 9, which is currently on sale at half price because Komplete 10 is out soon. There's enough stuff in there to keep you going forever in terms of instruments. But Hurry as the stocks are running very low, very quickly. I think Komplete 10 will probably be launched in the next week or two and the price will go back up.

EDIT - WOW didn;t notice how old this thread is - guys probably a concert pianist by now...) You might find the Magix Music Maker series software interesting. Myself? I use an M-audio Keystation 32Mini (go on, have agood laugh) which works with Garage Band (but you need a separate attachment) and MMM 2013
