Can you stop an audio interface from overriding your default output?

Hi, i'm trying to set my computer so that the default is to only use my USB audio interface as an input and have the output as HDMI (as it goes to a Crestron DMPS).
I set the default output to HDMI but every time I turn on the computer the interface overrides it and is set as the output.
