Using XLR and TRS inputs as a switch
Hi. Stupid question time...I have a Behringer power amp and graphic equaliser and a Crown power amp. They all have a combination of XLR and TRS inputs for each channel and the power amps also have RCA inputs.
The manual says to use one of the inputs.
I would like to use more than one input for different devices. Not at the same time, but just so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging different devices, and to save having to use another device as a switch.
Is this a big No No, might I damage something if I give it a try? XLR and 1/4" TRS will most likely be internally directly connected as they are the same (if both are balanced), so don't plug into both.
The RCA input may be internally connected at theve, or it may be a separately buffered and level matched input. You would have to check schematics from service manual to be sure.
Other option is a normal mixer or a summing mixer. Summing mixers are basically just rack mount 1U mixers with gain trim controls and nothing else - Behringer MX822, ART MX822 etc.
