For historical "faction", as the author calls it IIRC; try Conn Iggulden's Emperor and Conqueror series of books.
They document the lives of Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan and are hugely enjoyable reads.

I've read everything up to and including Dead Air.
I would recommend:
The Wasp Factory
The Crow Road
Complicity
Dead Air
Some of the mainstream Iain Banks novels have a bit of a fantasy flavour to them, but these are more crime/thriller.

The Crow Road is brilliant, and the old TV adaptation was very good as well.

I really like Kevin Sampson as a British author. He was also a member of the band The Farm.
Dunno, if his books are in eformat or not though, but I religiously buy all his books.
In addition, I always buy Conn Igguldens books, as I think he is a fantastic author.

My brother was in that, ok only as an extra in a few scenes, but hey ho.
I agree on anything by Conn Iggulden or Bernard Cornwell if you like historical type novels that are embelished into great stories. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I have used The Wasp Factory on numerous occasions to get disaffected teenage boys into reading books - an absolute genius first novel that will remind men what it feels like to be a young, naughty and horrible little boy.
Women won't really get it..!
I would also suggest you read any of his Sci Fi novels, very clever, very original - by Ian M Banks..!

Iain Banks was on Radio 4 recently talking about The Wasp Factory.
Still available on iPlayer, but NOT recommended unless you've already read it (major spoilers):

Found an author last week called John Niven, he has written 3 or 4 books, I've read 2, Kill your friends and The Amateurs, both excellent and quite funny.
Kill your Friends based around an A R guy in music during the late 90's.Very good book, similar in some ways to Filth by Irvine Welsh.
The Amateurs is set in Scotland and based on an amateur golfer.
Just about to start his 3rd novel, the second coming.
