The most I've ever spent is £30 on "The Modern Antiquarian" by Julian Cope (yes, him of Teardrop Explodes fame).That was around 11 years ago and it seems that I got a first edition.It's now out of print and is a bit more than that:

No mate 3 for a £1, 20 for a fiver, although to be honest one guy while I was in ruined the deal by buying 60 books so the charity altered the 20 for £5 rule.
Still got that deal first though. Now 3 for a £1 stilll a good deal though.
Now thats a book that quite interests me - as you say looks to go for more than the £30 you paid.
Is it worth it/any good??

That looks good.....a sketch even a tiny one would have been better than a litho and I would have bought one as well...
I think it's a great book.As a serious guide to ancient historical sites it's pretty informative, with the added bonus of Julian Cope's unique perspective on the world.It works imo just as well as a "pick up and dip in occasionally" book, but usually when I've read about a particular area I want to go there to see the stone circles in the flesh, as it were.Even though I've seen the book going for silly money I'm not tempted to sell it (I just realised my typo in the original post) as I still enjoy it after more than 10 years.
About £300 on a very rare signed first edition (hard as it is to believe, it was a bargain).
