British Historical "Fiction"

Im after a couple of good book series for my Dad, ideally with a basis on fact around British History

Something like the Sharpe novels, but for different ages, kings and queens of England etc

Ive seen "The White Queen" and sequals but they look, at a glance, a bit "Girly"

Have a look at something from Ken Follett, perhaps? I have only read 2 of his books (which have both subsequently been TV mini-series), but they certainly wove the story in to our history very well indeed (in my opinion!).
See Ken Follett | Site map for some info.

My dad is a huge Bernard Cornwall fan.

He has written about a gazillion novels all around the ages based on British history.

I think he wrote some of the Sharpe novels as well.

My dad started with his Excalibur series & never looked back

Here's his Amazon page for some more info & book ideas...

The Flashman novels (except the last, looked like a contract job).
The research and historical accuracy is superb.

Try the Sharon penman novels, starting with The sunne in splendour - a very topical War of the Roses/ Richard iii novel

Missed this thread before somehow.

Am currently reading the Simon Scarrow Revolution series which is Napoleon and Wellington.

Manda Scott did a quadrilogy on Boudica, each book title starts 'Dreaming the....'

As above, loads by Bernard Cornwell, not just the Sharpe books.
There's the Grail Quest series ~14th Century, Saxon series 9th Century, Arthur series, Stonehenge (2000BC)

Conn Iggulden is just doing a War of the Roses series, so only 1 book available in it at present. His other 2 series on Genghis Khan and Julius Caesar are well worth a read if you are going further afield than British.

The Patrick O'Brian series set in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars are superb. 20 volumes plus 1 unfinished. I can read these through then start them again.

The Flashman series is very good but set in different countries so may not be what you are after.

I now have collected the 21-book complete set, as you say the last volume is incomplete because O'Brian unfortunately died while writing it.

Patrick O'Brian's extraordinary powers of observation, wonderful description of characters and battles and a great sense of humour prove these historical novels can be read many times over without ever diminishing their delight.
