Read Potter again or give early Graham Masterton a look. Djinn was a hair stander without being damaging.

I've not long read the first Percy Jackson book and enjoyed that. Also try Alan Garner's 'Weirdstone of Brisingamen' and 'The Moon of Gomrath' maybe. They're older books now and I read them as a child, but have also not long ago reread them and they're a good but fairly short fantasy type book data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Another vote here for the Edge Chronicles. One of my favourite series of books from when I was younger along with the Series of Unfortunate Events books.

Possibly a bit boyish, but what about Robert Muchamore, or Charlie Higgens Bond or Zombie books?

If there's a local library nearby, get her a ticket and encourage her to browse.Alternatively, buy her a Kindle and an Amazon voucher, ditto. That's the only way to ensure she comes up against a variety of authors and genres.
DON'T try too hard to think about what she'd like: you have no way of knowing.Get her to read one of each and learn for herself.
There's nothing wrong with the older classics, too.I used to love Arthur Ransome and Just William.Try SF: Asimov's Foundation, for example.

I love the Charlie Higson books as female and don't find them too boyish at all data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 just discovered Anthony Horowitz's 'power of five' series too which is off to a very good start.
Agree about browsing the local library being a great way to start and discover books. Usually how I've found my favourites data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The Pittacus Lore books starting with I am Number Four are very good. My son devoured those. They feature strong female heroines as well so good for a girl to read.
Action, adventure, alien super powers. What's not to like ? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Thanks for all the suggestions. There's probably enough here to keep her occupied for years. Or at least there would be if she hadn't lost interest as quickly as she gained it. She still reads as she did before but the mad passion she developed while reading Potter disappeared as soon as she finished the last book!

The northern lights trilogy! Read them during primary school and re read then in year 10.
