Book Vs the Film
Apologies if this has already been done in here.Any comments about books you've read then seen the film or vice versa.
Those films that failed the book, those that encapsulated the book perfectly, those where the film was better (heaven forbid is that possible). Or those films based on a book , maybe didn't follow the book but managed to pull something off nonetheless.
Or even those books where you'd seen the film 1st & how it affected the book in your minds eye.
I'll start
I seem to remember The Godfather not only caught the book but added to it with great cinematography & a fantastic score & sound.
The Road
I liked the book& I liked the film but the film wasn't how I'd imagined the book
On The Road
One of my favourite books - had to turn the film off 10 mins in as it just didn't do it for me
Any others?... Last of the Mohicans. Great film. Very difficult book. The one that sticks in my mind is Tom Clancy's Hunt for Red October.
Brilliant book, not bad movie. Only when I re read the book later in life I couldn't get Sean Connery out of my mind, kinda ruined it for me. I always try to read a book before watching the movie as my imagination gets pulled to the actors facewhen thinking about the characters.
Don't know if that only happens to me. It's for that reason I try & get the book down my neck before the film comes out. Problem with that is 90% of the time the film won't live up to yur expectations. When a director & cast nails it or even improves on it it's special - I think the Godfather did that.
Heart of Darkness was a pretty dull read but inspired Apocalypse Now... Why Coppolais such an esteemed director I guess Yes Man. A great and amusing book. Totally ruined by being redone as an American Jim Carrey film. Absolutely - I love reading classics but this was a struggle. Probably heresy but I didn't think it was very well written at all. The Bourne books & movies surprised me.
I'd seen the first three movies (Identity, Ultimatum & Supremacy) and loved them - still do.
Then read the books to find they bear almost no resemblance to the movies. Still enjoyed them. school-boy error I struggled through the Bourne books - I don't think I finished the second one - it felt a little too .....wordy. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 I knew they were not the same as the films as they were written in the 70's?
