The browser works on all sites, it just can't do flash or any movies etc and displays everything in black and white.
The 3G is great and switches to GPRS in low signal and even the GPRS is fine to browse the internet with. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Nice one, thanks. I've been given amazon vouchers to get one - was meant to get one as a gift but they sold out - and I've been debating between going for it and holding off for a month or two for an ipad...

Yes, it's the 3G version.
The browser is...well, look at the (earlier in the thread) youtube video and you'll get the picture.
But I intend to use this just for books.

For anyone who will use the Kindle when travelling, having immediate 3G internet access when overseas can be a massive benefit as I found out this week.
It's great for reading books on too data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I had a little spare time today, for the first time since Christmas Day, so I downloaded 12 free books.
It's paying for itself already.

Unfortunately I only got socks for Christmas !! Although reading this thread...so tempted.
Friend got one for Chirstmas, it is impressive for what it does, it's not meant to rival an ipad, but for reading books, the e-ink display is very comfortable and works well.
The browser is a nice touch for lite distractions between reading.

A relative got one and spent 20 minutes trying to peel off the "Please Charge your Kindle before first use" (or whatever the notice is) sticker before realising it was an e-ink message displayed on the screen itself data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Wife has been banging on about getting one of these (kindle) for a while so going to treat the wife one for her birthday.
Stupid question can I only get the kindle from amazon, or can I get it anywhere else for cheaper??
Thanks.....Richarddata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The only other place that I'm aware you can get them is John Lewis but they're the same price as Amazon.
You could try a wanted ad on the Classifieds here - I've seen a few brand new ones sold.
