I've quite enjoyed the various Spider Shepherd books by Stephen Leather. They won't win any literary prizes (cue link to prizes) but they always do the trick when I want a light read for holiday etc

I love true crime aswell, must start a thread as I couldn't find one on here

Ok. I have a kindle loaded with a fair few books now and racing through them. I'm looking for some recommendations though to more modern war fiction

Read most of McNab / Chris Ryan all of which shadow of what used to be and now continue to add to an already stuffed genre of one man against the world.

Guess after a fictional novel equivalent of the film "tears of the sun" or something akin to Black Hawk Down but fictional

Forgot to mention that I finished children of time. Great book for 99p. It was a little dragged out and rather far fetched but a good take on the story of the end of earth.

Whilst you mention no Fantasy, Lord of the Rings and GoT are VERY heavy reading, can I sugest either David Gemmell's Legend, or Raymond Feist Magician. The former is very easy going and can be read as a single book, while Magician is really read as a trilogy so if just one suggestion, Legend.

I would suggest h.p Lovecraft, really interesting writing style and great stories
