Hotel pre authorisation and fees

one of my biggest bug bears on holiday is hotels taking a pre authorisation for anything you might spend (even if you've already paid in full.)

If I use my credit card abroad (say, the USA) I know my bank will charge fees. Assuming you spend nothing extra thus no money is actually taken, do you actually have fees taken on a pre authorisation?

No.Fees and exchange rate turns are only taken when a real transaction is posted.

If you are normally UK based then what you should do, is obtain at least one of the several credit cards readily available where the issuer does not charge fees nor exchange rate turns.

This one https://www.tandem.co.uk/credit-card also offers 0.5% cashback on all your spending.

There are probably others.
